As the Pi posts have gotten some attention, I thought I’d show another Pi which is setup and left in a dark cupboard.
It’s a Pi4 running a Home Assistant (HA) image, which has been running for nearly 2 years, I’d say. Its encased in a Pimoroni Pibow case with a Pimoroni Fan Shim, which triggers when cpu reaches 60C.
HA is an amazing open source tool which brings all IoT devices together under one roof, so to speak. Now I don’t use it to its full potential, as it is so vast but I plan on progressing it this year and tidying things up with additional bits.
All my lights are running through HA, inside and out. When dark it turns my outside lights on, removing the need for a PIR or a photocell. All my ESP8266’s are controlled through HA or are monitored. The birdhouse uses a Pi4 and is brought into HA, monitoring it’s stats, such as memory usage and cpu temperature. MQTT devices are brought in, such as printer monitoring, using Shelly devices for that and lighting. Now I need to pick up on Grafana more, which is used to log and plot all the accrued data. There’s a few bits which I monitor, such as a cupboard which runs a dehumidifier (Sonoff plug) and a ESP8266 with a BME280 to trigger when the humidity increases too high.
