Among the consequences of displacement is the massive disruption of children’s access to education. To address this, Solidarity Engineering has been developing a remote learning device using @raspberrypi and Kolibri @learningequality technology, called the “Solidarity Pi”. This device can be deployed in places with no access or limited access to internet, and it has pre-loaded curriculum for schools, families, or individuals in refugee camp settings or while on the migrant trail. We are currently piloting this in Reynosa, with the goal to share it with our partners at refugee camps across the world.
The main constraint of this project is that each student needs a device with a screen and wifi-connectability (a phone, tablet, etc) to access the Solidarity Pi’s educational materials.
If you have an old phone or tablet that you do not use anymore, and which has wifi capability and an intact screen, consider donating it! Or if you’d rather buy a new tablet straight out, head to our Amazon Wish List (Solidarity Inc). You’re donation could give a refugee child access to an education they otherwise wouldn’t have access to.
